South Bowling Night

One of the next south connecting events coming up is our South Bowling Night (adults only please). So mark your calendar, call the babysitter, bust out your tacky bowling outfits and make plans now to join us for an evening of meeting new faces, knocking down some pins and fierce competition (smack talk optional).

Meet Gwen…

Yeah, we’re huge fans of this gal! Not only is she heading south on the launch team, but she’s also on staff as our Adventure Canyon Elementary Director. Known for wearing stylish skate shoes and sporting a killer Canadian accent, we’re excited that she’s leading the charge for our kiddos.  Here’s a sound bite from Gwen:

“OK …so after today I’m not sure which way to think but it was pretty exciting to brainstorm ideas on how to best setup our South Campus and have it come out of boxes…quickly… efficiently and with K2’s mark!

Today I was with a bunch of K2 staffers as we walked through our new southern digs with“ a Portable Church guru”. We gave him our ideas and he in turn gave us some great suggestions and feedback about all of our dreams and plans. Pray with us as we unpack the details on how to best create the K2 environment down south. On one hand, the there are some big challenges to overcome with space, but on the other hand, the rooms are big and bright! I can see kids running through those doors. I can hear kids laughing and singing. The grass just outside  is so lush and green a “picnicable” (is that a word)! AND on top of it all….we’re doing it together! Can’t wait to unpack boxes with you!”

…I know I just got chills too!! Someone pinch me quick.

On another note, here’s a run down of the latest south campus developments:

• We had a GREAT wet picnic at Buttercup Park in the rain last Sunday. Who knew so many diehards would show up and feast with us!! Amazing. What a fantastics launch team we have. You all make me so proud!
• We’ve been super busy working on our order for Portable Church Industries (you know the guys that make all the custom cabinets and fixtures). Currently we’re knee deep in trying to balance our budget and make sure we’ll have everything we need when we hit the ground running in late August. This is mind boggling stuff.
• Went over a few more little things in the contract with Miller Campus. However, it’s all in the bag. But let me stop and say… these Miller Campus folks are amazing people to work with. They’ve been incredibly accommodating the entire time. We couldn’t have found a better group of people to host us.
• Found out this week that we can hold our July 31 Vision Night at Miller Campus! So for those of you that haven’t seen the place…this will be a the time to show you our new crib.
• We’re praying like wild men and women that God’s will continue to lead us every step of the way.  Join us in that prayer!

Come on, Men… IGNITE!

The Ignite men’s conference is coming to Salt Lake on June 26th – 27th. It’s an amazing event that will take place at the Christian Life Center in Layton. The conference has a great line up of exciting speakers and relevant topics for today’s men. Please surf on over to http://www.ignitemen.org/events.php for more information.

K2 has purchased 50 tickets in advance for this event and it would be a shame to have empty seats. Let’s rally the troops!  This is a great opportunity to hang with 50 other K2 guys and experience God and a great conference together. We want to strongly encourage you to consider joining us!

Picnic, Kick-ball and Flip-Flops!

Now that the exciting news is out regarding our new location and launch on September 27th, let’s celebrate and kick off the summer with a picnic in the park. For those who would like to participate in a mean game of kick ball, be sure and put your game face on and bring it!! So grab your families and throw on your favorite pair of flip flops (tennis shoes if your playing ball) and join us for some fun in the sun on Sunday June 14th. We will kick it all off at 5 PM. Bring your own picnic dinner and we will provide the dessert and drinks.

June 26th Meeting Cancelled

Whoops…we have a scheduling issue that has popped up! We need to cancel our South Campus Launch Team on Friday, June 26th due to the fact that the Men’s Ignite Conference is starting that night. We’d really like to encourage all of our men to take advantage is this incredible conference. Tickets are on sale now at the K2 office and on Sunday mornings. Meet Brooke…

Meet Brooke Brownell. Hi Brooke. Brooke is a MAJOR part of the Adventure Canyon Staff. We love her. In fact, when it comes to all things “operational” Brooke is the gal that makes it all happen. And guess what? Brooke is heading south with the launch team! We’re pretty excited about that. Recently we caught up with Brooke and asked her to share her thoughts about heading south this fall:

“Wow!! What an amazing time. I never thought this day would come. An actual location for South! How exciting. Today I went down to SLCC Miller Campus with Gwen Smith, Andy Marshall, Mary Goldring and Chris Asplund. It put so much into perspective of how this is going to work. I will be honest…my first thoughts were ‘a portable church, oh my, this should be interesting trying to make certain rooms work!’ But as I looked at the location and all the rooms, I really got excited because the space really works! Even as I sit, think and pray about the new campus, I can’t stop thinking of all the people God will bring to this location and the lives that will be changed. As we walked around the campus, we looked at all the great opportunities for events and mingling. I really just can’t wait to see how it will all work. God does amazing things. He is definitely working in Utah!!”

Recap – Launch Team Vision Meeting (May 22)

We just got home from a killer launch meeting tonight! Oh yeah…it was wild. Thanks to all of you who were able to attend and dream with us! It was a very rich time wrapped in a ton of laughter, excitement, worship and vision casting for the fall.

If you weren’t able to make it, we missed ya, but here’s are some bullet points to keep you in the loop:

• Everyone picked up a t-shirt to wear on Sunday. If you missed that, you can grab one before the service this weekend.
• We are 18 weeks away from launch! You read that right…only a 126 days.
• All pics, team announcements and dates will be posted on this blog and archived for your reading pleasure. You’ll receive an email alert with this blog is updated.
• We’re busy working on our launch team “Matrix”. It’s a document that tell us if we have all the volunteers and leaders we need to open up the south campus. Head’s up: you might be receiving a phone call to see where it is that you’d like to commit.
• Which lead into the next discussion: we were challenged to really pray and seek God on where He would have us serve and lead teams.
• There was a lengthy discussion on what it means to be a portable church. Here’s a link to the video.

• We ended the night praying for the people we have yet to meet down south. Please continue to pray for their hearts and their spiritual journeys.

The New Campus Location

After months and months (and countless tanks of gas), we’ve finally found a location for our new south campus! Praise God! And guess what? It was right beneath our noses the whole time. Who knew! It’s the new Larry H. Miller Salt Lake City Community College Campus located at 9800 South and I-15. Have you seen it? It’s a gorgeous, high tech facility that will allow us to seat about 500 people in weekend service. Oh Yeah…We’ve Got a Date!

Can you believe it? After a year and a half in the making K2 The Church is heading south to open their new campus on September 27th of this year! It’s been quite an exciting journey to see the hand of God leading us all along the way, revealing His plans, orchestrating all the details and now showing us our new location. So mark your calendars, put it on your fridge, start thinking of friends to invite for opening day…K2 South is on it’s way!!
